The word "Chamero" relates to the name "our people" from our area refered to the fruit vendors from the small town of Chamita, N.M. (a few miles north of Espanola where peaches, apples and other fruit grow abundantly). These fruit vendors did travel to the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado to sell and sometimes trade their fruit for potatoes and other vegetables that grew here. Cousin RoseRose M.
