Kitchen Facelift - Part 2

My Kitchen Facelift - Part 1,
 was featured over at

This blog will get you inspired to do some painting and updating on your own.  Check it out.

So,
I showed you the before & after pictures of the cabinets that were painted and glazed.

Now, it's time to share some shots of the island.

The is the island,
pre-granite.

High pony wall,

small work area.

We had the wall cut down to counter level,
and with plenty of room available,
we brought the circumference of the island out further.

The island now seats 5 comfortably,
accommodates plenty of high school text books,
makes for an excellent Play Doh craft station and the added bonus is,
I don't have to wear platform heals to see over the counter.

We had these cabinets done in an espresso finish.

It is a nice contrast to the painted/glazed cabinets.

Depending on the light,
they can appear dark brown,

sometimes nearly black.

Either way,
we're happy.

Now,
if only the glass panels would be ready,
it would complete the look.

Well,
almost.

See that blue/gray pattern in the granite?

That is a possible wall color choice.

What do you think?

I'm told,
gray is the new neutral.

Stay tuned...

Ok, now I'm really jealous ! I have the same island situation you had and I've never liked it. Yours looks so great !

Stopping over from your before & after, and LOVING looking around your blog.

I have to ask you---WHERE did you get that 2 tiered pedestal with the apples on it? And your rug, oh my gosh! Do tell. Please!

another question... did you glaze the cabinets yourself? and if you did, what glaze did you use. I know I have tons of questions!
